Bareknuckle JR — Kids Cuts Done Right
A first haircut should be a good memory, not a fight. We take our time, we keep it calm, and we never force a child into the chair. Jeep seating, a patient barber, and a parent right there beside them.
Built For Little Ones
Small kids aren't small adults. Everything about a Bareknuckle JR appointment is set up to keep your child comfortable, curious, and calm.
Jeep Seating
Your child sits in a kid-sized Jeep instead of a big barber chair. It's a ride, not a procedure — and that one change turns nervous kids into curious ones.
Parents Stay Close
You're welcome to stand right beside the Jeep — hold a hand, talk them through it, keep them company. Your calm is the strongest tool in the room.
We Go At Their Pace
We let them touch the clippers, hear the sound, and warm up first. If they need a break, they get one. A good cut is worth a few extra minutes.
We Don't Traumatize Children
This is the part we won't bend on. A haircut is a small thing — a child's sense of safety isn't. Kids remember how they were treated in that chair, and a bad first experience can turn into years of fear. So we do it differently, and we're upfront about the rules.
Strict No-Screaming Policy
If a child is genuinely screaming and distressed, we stop. We don't push through it, and we don't finish "just to get it done." A screaming child isn't getting a haircut — they're learning to be afraid of one.
No Holding Children Down
We do not allow parents to restrain or pin a child so we can keep cutting. Supporting and comforting your child is welcome. Forcing them isn't — not in our shop, not for a haircut.
Rough Day? Come Back.
If your child can't settle, we'll stop and have you rebook. No shame in it — some days just aren't the day. Most kids do far better on the second visit once the room isn't new anymore.
To be clear: we know these rules aren't what every parent wants to hear, and that's okay. If you're looking for a shop that will hold your child down to get the job finished, we're not it — and we'd rather tell you that now than have you find out in our chair. Every family who's on board with a patient, gentle approach is genuinely welcome here.
Setting Them Up To Win
A little prep makes an enormous difference. Parents who do these things tend to have smooth, quick, happy appointments.
Time It Around Naps & Meals
Book when your child is normally rested and fed. A tired or hungry toddler has no patience left to spend on us. Mid-morning is usually the sweet spot.
Talk It Up Beforehand
Tell them they're getting to sit in a Jeep and get a big-kid haircut. Kids take their cue from you — if you're excited and relaxed, they usually are too.
Bring a Comfort Item
A favorite toy, blanket, snack, or a show on your phone works wonders. Anything familiar gives them something to hold onto while we work.
Skip the Scary Words
Avoid "it won't hurt" or "don't be scared" — kids only hear hurt and scared. Keep it light and matter-of-fact, like a trip to the park.
Arrive a Few Minutes Early
Let them look around, watch the clippers, and get used to the room before they're in the seat. Rushing straight into the chair is how you lose them.
Stay Calm If They Fuss
Some wiggling and whining is completely normal, and it doesn't bother us a bit. We'll work with it. The only thing we stop for is real distress.
Before You Book
What ages do you take?
Bareknuckle JR is built for children from 6 months to 5 years old. Older kids are welcome in our regular chairs — just book a standard cut on the main services page.
Is this really my child's first haircut?
First haircuts are our favorite appointment. Tell your barber when you arrive — we'll take it slow, and we're happy to save a lock of hair for you if you'd like to keep it.
Can I stay with my child?
Yes — and we'd prefer it. You're welcome to stand right beside the Jeep, hold their hand, and talk to them the whole way through. What we don't allow is restraining or holding a child down.
What if my child won't sit still?
Wiggling is normal and we're used to it. But if your child becomes genuinely distressed and can't be settled, we'll stop and have you come back another day. It's not a failure — it's just information, and the next visit almost always goes better.
Why won't you just push through it?
Because a forced haircut teaches a child that the barbershop is a place where scary things happen to them and nobody listens. That fear can last for years. We'd rather take two visits and have a kid who likes getting their hair cut for life.
How long does an appointment take?
Plan on a little longer than an adult cut — we build in time to let your child warm up. Current service times and pricing are shown when you book online.
